Jim Corbett - About The Place - An Overview

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas lies a hidden gem, a national park affectionately known as Jim Corbett National Park. Situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, it holds the distinction of being Asia’s oldest national park. Its rich cultural heritage reflects the evolution of its name over time. Initially called Hailey National Park, the park was named after Sir Malcolm Hailey, the Governor of the United Provinces during its early days.

In 1954-55, the park was renamed Ramganga National Park in recognition of the Ramganga River, which flows through its expanse. Shortly after, in 1957, it was renamed Jim Corbett National Park to honor Edward James "Jim" Corbett, whose efforts were instrumental in its establishment. Declared a national park in 1936, the area has a history of land conservation dating back to 1868.
